Riding a horse during a spook can be an interesting event.
Horses spook for the same reasons we do. They, like us, can jump when surprised. Some will subsequently run and some will freeze.
In any event, these incidents can take us completely off guard. We can loose our balance, come off or be taken for a ride.
Clearly the first step is proactive: showing the horse how to Follow you Under Pressure - you'll have learned some techniques in our clinics and the video series on our website. But it can still happen. What do you do when it does?
Let's look at what's happening during a spook, and how you can train yourself to handle one, in a positive way - for both you and your horse.
